Youthful Love

(Friar Lawrence's point of view on Romeo's claims of love)

Friar Lawrence: "The youth has been spoiled and is getting worse as the years go by. A clear example would be the sole heir of the Montague family, Romeo Montague. He claims to have been in love with Rosaline, he shed tears when she refused him, and he was beyond sorrow, or was close to it just yesterday. Now, he claims to be in love with Juliet Capulet. A man, simply CANNOT change his mind on who he loves that quickly unless his love wasn't true. He cried in the morning and by night, he simply changed his mind about Rosaline and wanted to be with Juliet instead. This proves what I had originally said about how the youth merely love with their eyes and not their heart. And what else surprises me is that Romeo dares to say he moves on that quickly because the love he is giving is not reciprocated. And even MORE surprising, he falls in love with the sole heir of the Capulet family. Jesu! The two are arch rivals, no wonder he wants to marry her in secret. Although I agreed, because I thought it would bring peace between the two families, I still don't understand how the two foolish lovers are willing to make a lifetime commitment when they just met last night and haven't spent more than one night."
